Molecules of Environmental Interest
Carbon dioxide (CO₂): greenhouse gas. It is the main cause of global warming.
Sulfur dioxide (SO₂):polluting gas that contributes to the formation of acid rain.
Nitrate (NO₃⁻): present in fertilizers. In excess, it causes eutrophication of rivers and lakes.
Ozone (O₃): protects against UV radiation in the stratosphere, but acts as a pollutant in the troposphere.
